Leading a cruisade in Kabale District-Western Uganda

World Shine Ministries was founded in 2000 by Medad and Connie Birungi as Swallow Evangelistic Revival wsm logoMinistries, with a burden of sharing the love of Jesus Christ in word and need to restore hope to the hopeless thus transforming communities from sin, poverty, injustice, abuse, ignorance, illiteracy and disease. WSM desires to reveal the truth of God’s unconditional love through Jesus Christ to the people. It exists to raise Godly men and women to lead Uganda and Influence the nations for Christ. WSM is governed by a Board of Directors.

Rev Dr Medad Birungi

In February 1987, there was a Makerere University Mission led by Bishop Festo Kivengere, the Bishop of the Diocese of Kigezi and co-founder of African Evangelistic Enterprise. During that mission three dramatic things happened to Medad; first Bishop Festo Kivengere called Medad as one of the enthusiastic evangelists and university student Christian leader and talked and prayed with him. Medad recalls, “He looked me in the eye and said, I am sick with leukaemia and have a few months to live, how I wish you could take up the stick of revival and run with it so that I don’t die with it”. Medad agreed to take the mantle of evangelism and keep revival moving in the footsteps of bishop Kivengere and others who have gone to be with the Lord. Bishop Kivengere is his hero and mentor.

Medad was baptised in the Holy Spirit during this mission and spoke in tongues for more than three hours and his prayer life and vision changed. Medad had the passion, purpose and now he got the power that has since propelled his ministry and gifting. The Holy Spirit came with various gifts of the Holy Spirit including healing and deliverance which normally accompany Medad’s power of evangelism. It also opened him up to work with Pentecostal and Charismatic Churches without difficulty and started promoting unity.

Jesus visited him in his room in a vivid vision and commanded him to start an evangelistic ministry. WSM was founded after an experience of a supernatural visitation from the Lord on 9th February 1987 at Makerere University in Kampala. The Lord visited him in his room at Complex Hall (CCE) at 9:30 and in a glorious way accompanied by angels singing Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty. In that vision experience, the Lord told Medad, “Medad, I am calling you to be an evangelist; if you obey me and do my work, I will bless you, bless your family through you, bless your village, Kigezi, western Uganda and Bless Uganda through you. I will bless Africa through you and will finally bless the world through you.” The Lord told him to start and evangelistic ministry and issued him with the call to take the uncompromising message of the love of Jesus Christ across the world and call on His bride to prepare herself.

Medad started Kigezi Anglican Youth Missioners in 1987 at Makerere University that first ministered  diocese and Bishop Festo Kivengere, who was also a co-founder of African Evangelistic Enterprise, was the first Patron. It started doing evangelistic work extensively in Kigezi until 1993 when it became Kigezi Ankole Youth Missioners (KAAYM) and ministered in all the dioceses of former Kigezi and Ankole districts. In 1995 it was formed into Uganda Anglican Youth Missioners and ministered extensively in Uganda until 2000.

In 2000 Swallow Evangelistic Ministries was formed as God visited Medad again and charged him to start a ministry that will minister extensively in Uganda, where it worked with churches of all backgrounds without any discrimination to denomination.  It was privileged to participate in and study the transformational work of God in the nation of Uganda, and to gain a comprehensive understanding of the principles involved in the dynamics of transforming revivals, God’s dealings with nations, and their destinies. However, it was misunderstood by the Anglican diocese of Kigezi as the word Swallow was misinterpreted to mean swallowing the church and in 2002 the name was dropped by the board. In 2002, the Ministry was revived by Medad and Connie Birungi, Kenneth Karyaija, Benson Mugyenyi and Robert Erone, under the name World Shine Ministries with its headquarters in Kampala and registered as a none-governmental and none-profit Company without guarantee, a charity. World Shine Foundation, a charity, was formed by Flora Mackenzie, Kenneth Karyaija and Benson Mugyenyi, in Glasgow Scotland in the United Kingdom to support it financially.

_MG_8496The Lord led the Ministry into local and International Missions to reach out to the Church in the nations.  Since then its work has spread across the world touching all 6 continents of the world, and establishing a presence in several countries.  It is currently registered as a legal entity in Uganda and UK, and is recognized as a vital part of God’s working in America, Canada, Finland, Singapore, South Africa, Kenya, Rwanda, Sudan, Nigeria, Sieraleone, Tanzania, Malawi and Burundi, among others.

IMG_1568In 2012 when Rev.Medad became 50 years old God visited him again and told him that on his Golden Jubilee, he was giving him 50 cities in Uganda, 50 cities in Africa, 50 cities in Europe with 50 cities in the  UK, 50 cities in Asia and 50 Cities in America. He gave him a dream of 50 years; by 2062 WSM should have reached, raised and released 50 cities in Uganda and 50 cities in each continent into their destiny. In 2014 the Board of Directors of WSM unanimously agreed to change the name from World Shine Ministries to World Shine Evangelistic Ministries.
